With the decline of manual craftsmanship, the Livery of today reflects their
predecessors in a different age, with architects, surveyors, builders, engineering
consultants, developers, and other professionals connected with the City
Institutions, as well as a miscellany arising from paternity. But it is
the values and standards of conduct and craftsmanship, applied to creative
work in our daily lives, that is our true inheritance that we must preserve
and hand on to our successors. These links with the distant past echo our
origins for if the Company's past is part of its present, it is no less
true that the Company's present is part of its future.
There is a continuing demand for membership, which is regulated by selection
and the immediate future seems to indicate a period of controlled expansion
in all of the activities of a vigorous Company, building on the sure foundation
of a long heritage.
The Liverymen of the Joiners Company, with their brother Liverymen of
other Companies, have a function in the traditions and government of our
great City. In particular, the Livery elects the Lord Mayor, Sheriffs
and other City Officers each year. The contribution of the City of London
to our whole nation is of vital importance and the Company continues to
give its full support in maintaining its independence and integrity.
The Worshipful Company of Joiners and Ceilers will remain true to its
inheritance of many centuries in promoting the highest standards of craft
and conduct, to encourage education and to be charitable in all things.
Further information on the Company, or any of its activities, may be
obtained from the Clerk
