This is a busy social time for the Livery. There are several dates for your diary.
Firstly we have our Ladies Banquet on May 21st. at Haberdashers Hall. This is a highlight of our year so please apply to the Clerk for tickets for yourself and your guests in good time---well before the final date of May 7th. Numbers are limited to not more than 150; it is important to fill the Hall and late comers may be disappointed.
Also during the day of May 21st. there is the inter Livery Clay Pigeon Shoot at the North London shooting grounds. This is organised by Adrian Tacchi so please contact him for details if you are either a ‘shooter’ or just want to go along for the lunch.
On June 1st. the Masters Garden is open for Liverymen, their families and friends. I hope this will be a great fun day out in the June sunshine. Anyone keen on gardening will enjoy a lovely setting---ancient trees, a super lake with fish and lilies, and many less usual shrubs and plants. Later in the month the garden is open to the public as part of an annual Village Gardens Day which usually attracts 2/3000 visitors. Here again please apply in good time so we can plan the catering. This will be a Charity day to raise funds for our own Charitable Trust and for St. Joseph’s Hospice.
Finally on July 1st. there will be a visit to Cambridge based on Trinity Hall---with lunch, a tour of the College, and punting on the river Cam.
Please note these dates and join in with your fellow Liverymen.
It is pleasing to note that the Court of Assistants is seeking a formal liaison with HMS Astute, the first of the new class of hunter-killer submarines which are currently being built at Barrow in Furness.
The expected level of support, which is traditional with many Livery Companies, will be an initial gift to the ship, entertaining personnel at Company functions and the award of an annual prize.
We shall all look forward to the fruition of this initiative which has been long sought, and brought about from a contact by Court Assistant James de Sausmarez.
We are pleased to read that the Company has received the welcome news that the refurbishment of the committee rooms at Guildhall has been completed and the facilities may again be used by Livery Companies , free of charge.
Certain restrictions on "outside" bookings during the working day has been made but it is hoped that most of the meeting of our Court of Assistants and some Court of Livery will once again be held in Guildhall in the coming months and years
