Our formal association with the nearly newly commissioned HMS Astute is proceeding well. In February the Captain of the Boat and some members of his crew gave a wonderful and informative presentation at the Salters Hall, into the history of HMS Astute and it predecessors and its the progress to its much awaited commissioning into the Royal Navy’s Fleet. All followed by a splendid buffet supper enjoyed by both crew members and the members of the Livery and their families
In September a joint visit was arranged by Past Master Peter Motteram for Liverymen and their families to visit the Fittingout process of the Vessel in Barrow in Furness.
This association which is traditional among London Livery Companies, will involve an initial gift to the ship, entertaining personnel at Company functions over the years and the award of an annual prize to a Crew member. We shall all look forward to the fruition of this initiative which has been long sought, and brought about from a contact by Renter Warden James de Sausmarez and promoted forward by Past Master Peter Motteram
