We are so pleased to see that one of our respected members of the Court of Assistants James Vickers, has been installed as Mayor of the Surrey District of Elmbridge on May 22nd this year
In any walk of life to achieve high Civic office in your own constituency is a fine achievment and we wish James a happy and successful year before he returns full time to the Joiners Court and the renewed rigours of all that might involve. The Council write:-
May 22, 2009
A FORMER soldier with a love of the countryside has been formally elected as the new Mayor of Elmbridge.
Councillor James Vickers takes over from Cllr Nigel Cooper after a year serving as his deputy.
The Conservative member for Oxshott and Stoke D’Abernon has chosen Newlife – a charity for disabled and terminally ill children – to be the main beneficiary of the Mayor’s charity appeal for this year.
As in previous years, the first citizen of the borough will also be supporting Assisting Communities in Elmbridge and the Mayor of Elmbridge Trust Fund.
During a distinguished army career, Cllr Vickers enjoyed numerous overseas appointments before moving with his wife Rosemary to Stoke D’Abernon 36 years ago.
He said: “It is a great privilege and honour that you have elected me as your mayor.”
Best if luck James and enjoy your year as first citizen
