Rebuilding of Zimmerleuton's Guild House in Zurich

08 June 2009

News

Please find below the latest report from the Guild Master of the Zimmerleuton in Zurich on the rebuilding of their Guild House after the disastrous fire last year.   Ruedi Bodmer writes:-
As promised I'll tell you about the Sechseläuten 2009 and other world-shattering events. The  wheather was exciting at the Sechseläuten. It was quite warm, there were a lot of people in good mood on the streets, we had interesting guests of our guild and a warm atmosphere in the temporary guilds' hall "Metropol". The parade was wonderful, and there were no incidents - except a short story with some women of Kiwanis women association Basel. As you may  know the guild is interested in selling as many guild lanterns as possible to sponsors. The lanterns have four glasses.  The big back-glass of the sponsored lanterns is created by the sponsor so that it is seen who had supported us. So did Kiwanis women of Zurich; they bought two lanterns, and we had to get done them till the Sechseläuten so that they could be shown to the 16 (!) women of Kiwanis Basel. When the Zimmerleuten guild entered the Limmatquai at the parade suddenly 17 women pounced on me. One of them was the chairwoman of Kiwanis women Zurich, and the other 16 came from Basel. Each of them wanted to say thank you to me and to kiss me in Account of this wonderful lanterns (what they afterwards did!!!!). So I prettily got behind schedule at the parade, and the Zimmerleuten guild was for 5 minutes without her master. You see, it isn't always that harmless to do good. In the Sechseläutens' evening , we were three times paied a smart visit by another guild and had had a lot of fun. After midnight a phantastic Sechseläuten gots its end.

Some time later, we were at our Nachsechseläuten with a plain dinner and the reports of the "Auszug" (our guild members who paid three other guilds a visit) and the report of the "Stubenhocker", that means me and the guild members who stayed the whole evening in the Guild's hall on our backsides . This was a lot of fun this evening too.

What currently happens on the reconstruction subject?
The fund-raising-project is quite successful. We still miss another million franks (and have got about three up to now). The roof construction is finished in all parts, also in the back of the house, and covered by tiles of a light yellow (see picture sent below). The kitchen is planned, the planning of the house installation is coming to an end , and we are now discussing how all the rooms should and could be lighted - a very emotional subject for the Reconstruction Committee. The project is about three months behind schedule, so Zimmerleutens' next Sechseläuten 2010 will once more take place in the "Metropol". But  we hope to hold the apero  under the guild's house arches, and we're going to open our house so that all guild members can have a look to the progress of the reconstruction.
The next Sechseläuten (2010) is taking place on Monday, April 19th,
