The 2009 Joiners Golf Day at Hendon

03 September 2009

Report

The Joiners Golf Day was held at Hendon Golf Club on Thursday 3 September 2009 on a blustery but fine day. Hendon is the home club of the Master's Lady where she is currently the Ladies Captain. 24 golfers took part including three officers from our affiliated submarine, HMS Astute. An individual and team stableford competition was played in the morning and a friendly 9 hole foursomes match between the Joiners and their guests was played during the afternoon. In between, the golfers enjoyed an excellent roast beef lunch with Apple and blackberry crumble to follow. The individual stableford prize went to Mike Richards, a guest of the Master, with a score of 37 points. Scott Taylor, one of the submariners, was second with 32 points and Susie Latham was third also with 32 points and she won the prize for the best lady golfer. In the team competition, the Master's Team, consisting of the Master, Mike Richards, Tony Corner and John Davis, won with an excellent total of 87 points. The Nearest the Pin prize went to the Master's Lady, Gerri de Sausmarez, and the straightest Drive prize went to Tony Corner. The Liveryman Cup was won by the Master with a score of 31 points narrowly defeating last year's winner Geoff Ellis on count back after he posted the same score. Geoff sportingly presented the trophy to the Master. Finally, in the foursomes match the guests resoundingly beat the Joiners by 4 matches to one. The day conclude with tea and Gerri's delicious home made lemon drizzle cake!
