Sechselauten Zurich 2010
As you will remember, the skies over England were closed over the weekend of the April Celebrations for the annual Sechselauton in Zurich this year . The Master and Mistress James and Geri, having been officially invited by the Zimmerleuten to attend as their honoured guests, it was their intention attend and to present to the Zunftmeister and the Zimmerleuten the new Joiners/Swiss Lantern at the Celebrations on Monday 19th April.
So that it was with great sadness and disappointment that the news was received by the Zimmerleuton Guild members that they had to cancel because closure of the air space between London and Zurich . However PM Snelling with son Mark who were also attending this year, and were likewise booked to fly together to Zurich. When the flights were cancelled they decided to take to the car and the open road and left on Friday night to drive in time for the Ball to be held on Saturday evening, after a 12 hour journey they arrived at 2.30pm on Saturday
The events of the celebration were enjoyed in fine weather and at the request of the Master Joiner, Past Master Snelling stood in and presented the new Lantern to the Zunftmeister at the luncheon. Without doubt the Master and all the Guild Members were delighted with the Gift and in thanks and celebration played Our National Anthem as a token of respect to London and The Queen. Everyone stood up , it was indeed quite an emotional moment. Dr. Christian Steinmann was announced as a new Liveryman of the Joiners and Ceilers, which was again very well received.
Having risen at 7.30 am on Monday morning, eventually retiring to bed at 0300 on Tuesday morning, John and Mark arrived back home at around 12 o clock on Tuesday. The Master, James has been officially invited to be the Guest of the Zimmerleuten for next year’s 2011 celebrations when they will return to their own Guild Hall and this he has already accepted.
We can report that the relationship between the Joiners and the Zimmerleuten is strong and very warm .
